The CEO of Multichoice Africa, Nico Meyer, has described EbonyLife TV as a celebration of the African cultural identity.
He made this statement during the public launch of EbonyLife TV at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos on Sunday.
“As long standing advocates of this continent and its potential, the launch of EbonyLife TV is once again a reinforcement of the need for cultural expression. It is a celebration of the upwardly mobile, global black African, with programming that honours cultural identity,” Meyer said.
The launch, which was graced by politicians, media moguls and other personalities, also had in attendance, the Minister of Information, Mr. Labran Maku, who represented President Goodluck Jonathan.
In addition to sneak peeks into EbonyLife TV programmes at the launch, personalities said to have influenced media, entertainment and politics on the African continent, were presented awards by the Editor-in-Chief of Forbes Media, Mr. Steve Forbes.
Africa’s first black global entertainment network, EbonyLife TV, is said to be the brainchild of talk show host, Mo Abudu.
She said, “My delight comes from creating a channel that appeals to Africa’s most important demographic. This channel can sit shoulder to shoulder with any international brand, quality wise.”
The channel, which made its debut on DSTV on July 1, is expected to be available to audiences across East, West and Central Africa.
Also, Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State and his predecessor, Mr. Donald Duke, were present at the event.
