An Assistant Director at the National Youth Service Corps in Oyo State, Folasade Sulu, has called on the youth to challenge their talents and start the journey to their preferred destination early in life.

During the presentation of her first book, Pranks and Pangs of Jealousy, in Ibadan, Oyo State, recently, Sulu said pressure and demand of work were hurdles she had to cross to trigger her writing talent. The author, who named Prof. Wole Soyinka, Flora Nwapa and late Chinua Achebe as her heroes, said her book was a result of personal experience at work and love life.

She said, “This is my first book. But when I was at the NYSC Directorate Headquarters in Abuja, I wrote many stories and that was how I had the spark to demonstrate my talent. As the head of mobilisation of NYSC in Oyo, I have a tight schedule but I find time to read and write whatever comes to my mind. Sometimes, I wake up in the middle of the night and put some ideas down.

“I want the young ones to discover and challenge their God-given talents. We were created as goal getters and we should live up to it. I work with corps members everyday and I have realised that Nigerian youths are skilful. They only need to trigger their talents to become employers of labour.”

On the choice of the book title and why she decided to share her personal experience with readers through the book, which was published in the United States, Sulu said she wanted people to learn from her experience, having suffered the effect of jealousy at work and family life.
