Lovers of visual arts have a date with mother and son, Nkechi and Nduka Obi, from today (Wednesday) as their joint exhibition will open at Victoria Crown Plaza, Lagos.
Among others, they will be exhibiting works titled Atrocities, Naija Rape, Sacrifices, Tribute to Allu 4, Gossip Girls and Egunje.
To Nkechi, who is also a fashion designer, the dream to have a joint exhibition with her son started a long time ago.
“Seeing it come to pass finally both excites and scares me,” she says. “Nduka is a more meticulous and thoughtful artist than I am. His quest for perfection both motivates and challenges me. I owe the final expression and perfect finish of most of my pieces to his discerning and ruthless critique.”
While Nkechi, whose works usually take a critical look at socio-political and cultural issues, adds that painting is a catharsis in many ways, Nduka simply says art is his life.
He enthuses, “I no longer remember when exactly I started painting but I know that there has been a quick evolution from my mural days to new and exciting artistic expressions. Each project is a journey and consists of multiple works, often a range of different media.”
