Lilian’s premature exit from the Big Brother House shifts attention to Tayo, GEOFF IYATSE writes
For Lilian, the hope of becoming the Big Brother Africa 2014 winner is now a past fantasy. On Sunday, the 22-year-old model was evicted.
She was set parking along with Esther from Uganda and Kenya’s Sabina. Many fans could not believe Sabina would go so soon. But that seems to be the name of the game – surprises.
But Lilian’s eviction did not surprise many Nigerians. There was really no moment in her short stay when she gave many people a reason to be proud. Perhaps, a number of viewers tolerated her while she was still around.
She entered the house a cool-headed babe – well, maybe it was a pretence. But not long after, she became offensive, sparking controversies, like when she allowed Namibian Luis to give her a butt massage. Disapproval of her cheap ploy to win approval in the house went viral on social media.
Little wonder, she was not saved when she needed to be. From the comments that welcomed her eviction, it is obvious Nigerians are not missing Lilian, who many agreed could go further supposing she was real and talked less.
She may have broken Nigeria’s record in the show in a non-palatable manner. She spent only two weeks whereas previous female representatives – Ofuneka, Geraldine, Vina, Karen (who won) and Beverly – stayed much longer.
In Tayo Nigerians now tie their hope to bring back the big prize. Luckily, he escaped the list of names up for eviction this week – Alusa, Ellah, Laveda, M’am Bea, Macky, Perinthias and JJ, who he had a conflict with earlier.
Fans might have complained about Tayo’s inconsistency. But he is certainly adjudged to be mature in his carriage and character. When he had a problem with JJ, he apologised with nobody prodding him to do so. He even prostrated before the entire house, a show of humility and what some would regard as his ‘Africanness’.
Recently, fellow housemates had wanted to turn him into a laughing stock over the news of his new-born baby back home. But Tayo’s maturity and self-control saved him.
Can he continue to thrive where Lilian has slipped? Time will tell.
