A gospel singer, Gbenga Oke, has said that he is into music to inspire and orientate people with his songs. He says he intends to give them hope in the face of the numerous challenges in the country.
Oke made this known shortly after the release of his seventh musical album at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos on Sunday, arguing that the gospel music industry in Nigeria was not where it should be.
According to him, many gospel singers are venturing into secular brands due to frustration.
The footballer-turned artiste said he came from a family with a rich musical background, hence he started singing as a choir in the church at the age of five.
On his new album, he said, “This is my seventh album. My first was released in 2005. The title of this album is Full of Miracles and it is really diferent from the earlier ones.”
“I want to use my music to minister hope and inspirations to people. They will know through my works that there is hope even in the face of countless challenges facing us in the country. I started singing from age five in the church. I just left the Olabisi Onabanjo University when my first album came out in 2005. So music is something I was doing even while in the university. The truth is that I wanted to be a footballer, but somehow, the singing urge in me just wouldn’t allow me to leave music.”
